Writing: Client work & Personal

I am well versed in layout design and typesetting for both print and ebook formats. That being said, this page contains both work of others and my own.

Unyielding Roots

Kiana Davis is an educator, author, poet and organizer from Seattle WA who worked with 4Culture to create an anthology. Unyielding Roots is a compilation of essays, poems, personal accounts and stories about the history of black hair. Disclaimer: I had no hand in editing or curating these stories nor did I design the cover. What I had the pleasure of doing was turning the printed version of Unyielding Roots into an e-book format through CSS and HTML coding and layout design. Kiana has several other works available on Amazon, the link for the physical and electronic version of this book is:

Because of this, I became a Wolf

From June to August of 2024 briefly after I graduated, I was one of the lucky two picked for a publishing internship at Seattle Arts & Lectures. My cohort and I Jess Jimmenez Arroyo worked with SAL’s Writer’s In The Youth Program to curate a chapbook of K-12 student work. Students across all greater Seattle school districts submitted comics, poems, short stories and essays to be published. Jess and I worked to read through and curate each work beside each other based on the most common themes students had written about to best honor them - the completed chapbook contains over 300 student’s work in about 200 pages. Disclaimer: I had no part in any of the graphic design in this project in any way, graphic design lead was Cara Sutherland. I worked on the copyediting, typesetting, and curation with Jess.

If you have a young loved one that is interested in writing and are interested in any of SAL’s programs the link is:

Beyond the Mailroom: A short story

A short story written in May 2026 for NYC Midnight’s Flash Fiction competition. The requirements for the story was that it was to be under 1,000 words, follow 3 randomly given genre prompts, and be written in 1 weekend. My assigned prompts were Mailroom, Suspense, and Teleprompter.
